Achievements as a Faculty

Dr. Misra’s teaching experience spans over 40 years. The teaching activities include bedside teaching on all clinical service days, postgraduate case-presentations, seminars, clinical grand rounds and didactic lectures.

He has had a numerous achievements as a teacher of medical students. In AIIMS, he streamlined undergraduate education to a great extent. He has trained more than 25 postgraduate and PhD candidates in innovative projects and research proposals. He was the first to start National level CME programs in Internal Medicine, a trend that was continued for several years and has been lauded by students of AIIMS and also those from other medical colleges in India. He was also instrumental in starting the formal objective assessment of students for bedside teaching. Due to his efforts the teaching and working of postgraduate students were formalized in the form of an instruction book. He has devoted extra time for bedside teaching during evening hours, which sometimes continued late in the night beyond his duty hours. His teaching was widely appreciated by UGs, PGs and students from other countries visiting AIIMS for externship. 

During his time as faculty of AIIMS he was selected as one of the youngest Professors. In addition, he was also incharge of Clinical Pharmacology, and Metabolic Research Group at AIIMS.

  • He has also been a faculty at Department of Medicine and Endocrinology, The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, Texas, USA (the foremost center for diabetes and metabolic diseases globally).
  • He has worked as World Health Organization fellow at the Center for Diabetes and Cardiovascular Diseases, University College, London and Royal Free Medical School, and the University of Texas. Currently, He is also adjunct Faculty at Indian Institute of Advanced Research, Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
  • Misra has given a number of public lectures to educate the population regarding diabetes and its complications and how early recognition and preventive measures like correct diet and exercise are the key ingredients of good health.
  • Besides this he has been invited as guest faculty and chairperson in many National and International conferences:
  • His teaching was widely appreciated by UGs, PGs and students from other countries visiting AIIMS for externship.

Misra has participated in numerous CME programs in National and International conferences. Through his lectures, he has tried to educate physicians, nurses and paramedical workers in the correct evaluation and management of diabetes, obesity and other metabolic disorders.

Achievements as Member of Important International and National Expert and Associations:

Dr Misra has been a member of a number of National and International policy and decision-making bodies in internal medicine, diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular diseases. Recently in year 2022, Dr Misra was an expert in International nutrient counsel in Portugal. Earlier he has been a member of WHO Expert Group for Childhood Obesity (2005), and inthe WHO Expert Committee for Appropriate Measures of Obesity in Asian Populations (2005).  He has been a key member for National Control Programs for Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease, as well as in various National Committees set up by the Health Ministry, Planning Commission, ICMR, Dept. of Biotechnology, DST, and the WHO. He has been in the Committee for Indian Pharmacopoeia and is an advisor for monitoring committees for National Institute of Nutrition (Hyderabad) and Department of Biotechnology.
